James Bland Memorial Music Competition held Feb. 16

The Smithfield Lions Club hosted its sixth annual James Bland Memorial Music Competition on Feb. 16.
According to a club release, members of the Smithfield Lions host the competition each year for elementary- and high-school aged students. The winner of the vocalist category was Cami Leigh Castleberry, 15, of Windsor High School. The winner of the instrumentalist category was Emily Grace Harris, 16, who is home schooled.
The event took place at Smithfield High School, 14171 Turner Drive, Smithfield.
The Smithfield Lions Club was chartered in 1977. The group is part of the world's largest service organization with more than 1.3 million members in more than 45,000 clubs and 220 countries around the world. The Smithfield Lions Club meets on the second Monday of every month at Smithfield Station.
